Woke up craving something different for breakfast today. Protein shakes get boring fast, right? Figured I’d finally test those breakfast meat ideas I keep pinning. Grabbed my list of five types and hit the grocery store early.

My Meat Mission Starts
Stood staring at the meat section feeling kinda overwhelmed. Needed five: turkey sausage, chicken apple sausage, Canadian bacon, lean ham, and good old bacon. Found them all, though that fancy chicken apple stuff cost twice as much! Paid and hauled it all home.
Set up my kitchen like a mini test lab. Got out the big skillet, spatula, paper towels for greasy stuff, and my trusty notebook. Wanted to cook each one fairly – same heat level, no fancy tricks.
Cooking Round One: Turkey & Chicken
Started with the turkey sausage patties. They felt kinda soft and spongy raw. Dropped them in the hot skillet. Heard the sizzle. Flipped ’em carefully after a few minutes. Took longer than I expected! Finally got a nice brown color.
- Turkey Verdict: Surprisingly juicy inside, not dry at all. Mild flavor, kinda plain honestly. Healthy? For sure. Exciting? Not really.
Next, sliced up the chicken apple sausage links. Browned them nice in the leftover turkey fat. Smelled sweet when cooking, like apples and maple.
- Chicken Apple Verdict: Boom! Sweetness hit first, then savory chicken. Really tasty combo. Texture was good, firm but not rubbery. Felt kinda fancy. Price tag hurts though.
Cooking Round Two: Pork Options
Moved onto the pork gang. Canadian bacon slices went in next. Barely any fat released. Cooked super fast, maybe 60 seconds per side.
- Canadian Bacon Verdict: Salty! Like, really salty. Chewy texture, almost like ham. Fast and easy, but packs a sodium punch.
Diced up some lean ham next. Quick sear to warm it through and get slightly crispy edges.
- Lean Ham Verdict: Salty again, but a familiar flavor. Easy to cook. Crispy bits were the best part. Gets kinda tough if you overcook it though.
Saved the classic bacon for last. Yeah, I know it’s not the healthiest king. Fried it slow and low. Watched it curl, smelled amazing. Poured off the excess grease twice. Got it nice and crispy.

- Bacon Verdict: Come on, it’s bacon. Crunchy, smoky, absolutely delicious. Greasy as heck though, and paper towel needed serious absorbing duty.
My Morning Meat Champion
Stood there staring at my five little piles of meat. Tried a tiny bit of each again. Need that coffee buzz to balance the salt!
Overall Winners:
- Taste Champion: Chicken apple sausage (expensive, but wow).
- Speed & Ease Champ: Canadian bacon (if you don’t mind salt).
- Decent Balance: Turkey sausage (good protein, mild flavor needs help).
- Guilty Pleasure: Bacon (obviously).
Honestly, the ham felt like just… ham. Didn’t wow me.
Will I ditch eggs? Nope. But adding these meats sometimes? Absolutely. Probably stick mostly with turkey sausage on regular days (gotta save money!), maybe splurge on chicken apple sausage weekends. Keep Canadian bacon for rushed mornings. Bacon stays a weekend treat.
Kitchen smells like a diner now. Totally worth it.
