Alright, so I decided to give Blue Apron a whirl. Heard a lot about these meal kits, figured I’d see what the fuss was about. The box showed up right on my doorstep, pretty convenient.
Got it inside and opened it up. Lots of packaging, ice packs, little bags and containers for everything. You get the recipe cards with the nice pictures and instructions, obviously. Tucked in there, usually with the recipes, I found the packing slip – basically, the receipt for what’s supposed to be in the box.
Checking Out the Receipt
So I pulled out this paper slip. It wasn’t fancy, just a printout. It listed the meals for the week, like “Steak and Potato” or “Chicken Pasta”, whatever I’d picked. Then under each meal, it usually lists the main ingredients they packed for it. You know, the little bag of spice blend, the piece of fish, the specific vegetables.
I actually took a minute to glance over it. Compared it to the bags and stuff in the box. It’s supposed to help you make sure you got everything, I guess. For my box, everything listed seemed to be there. It mentioned:
- The protein (like chicken breasts or ground beef)
- The specific veggies (carrots, onion, maybe a zucchini)
- Those little ‘knick-knack’ bags with sauces, spices, or small things like garlic cloves or a bit of cheese.
- Sometimes it lists the recipe cards themselves.
Did I really need it? Hard to say. The recipe cards also tell you what you should have. Maybe it’s good for their warehouse people to double-check packing. For me, it was just another piece of paper in the box. I looked at it once, confirmed things looked okay, and then mostly just focused on the recipe cards when it was time to cook.
It served its purpose, listed the stuff. Didn’t tell you anything surprising. Just a standard packing receipt, really. Confirmed I got my meal kit stuff. Then it went into the recycling bin with the rest of the box cardboard.
