Alright, so let’s talk about my little adventure trying to find a decent bed and breakfast in Spokane. It wasn’t exactly rocket science, but you know how it is, you want something a bit more… cozy, I guess, than your standard, boring hotel room. I was heading there for a quick trip, nothing too fancy, but the thought of another beige box with a questionable carpet just wasn’t doing it for me.

My Brilliant Idea: Ditch the Hotel Chains
So, I thought, “Why not a B&B?” I’ve done ’em before in other places, sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s a bit… well, let’s just say “unique.” But I was feeling adventurous. My main criteria were pretty simple, really:
- Cleanliness. Non-negotiable. I can handle old, but not dirty.
- Decent breakfast. I mean, it’s in the name, right? Not asking for a gourmet spread, just something better than a pre-packaged danish.
- Not ridiculously expensive. I wasn’t looking to break the bank.
- Location. Reasonably close to where I needed to be, or at least not out in the boonies.
The Hunt Begins
I started by doing what everyone does, just poking around online. Typed in “bed and breakfast Spokane” and a bunch of stuff popped up. Some looked super fancy, like, way too frilly for my taste. Others looked a bit run down, even in the pictures. You gotta be careful with pictures, they can make a shack look like a palace if they try hard enough.
I spent a good hour or so, clicking through websites, reading reviews. Reviews are a mixed bag, you know? Some people complain about everything, others think a place is heaven on earth if they get an extra mint on their pillow. I try to look for a general trend. If ten people say the beds are lumpy, chances are, the beds are lumpy.
One place caught my eye. It didn’t look like a Victorian dollhouse, which was a plus for me. The reviews were mostly positive, people mentioned the breakfast was solid and the hosts weren’t too intrusive. That’s another thing, sometimes hosts can be a bit too friendly, you know? I like a bit of peace and quiet.
Taking the Plunge
So, I booked it. It was a bit of a gamble, but hey, life’s full of ’em. When I got there, first impressions were pretty good. The place was older, sure, but it was clean. Seriously clean. That was a big relief. The room wasn’t huge, but it was comfortable enough. Had a decent bed, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed.
The next morning, breakfast time. And you know what? It was actually pretty good! They had some homemade stuff, not just cereal and toast. Fresh fruit, some decent coffee. The hosts were around, friendly but not overbearing. We chatted for a bit, they gave me a couple of tips about the area, and then left me to my food. Perfect.
Was It Worth It?
Overall, yeah, it was a good experience. Way better than a generic hotel, for sure. It had a bit of character, felt more like staying in a home than a corporate box. It wasn’t perfect, I mean, the Wi-Fi was a little spotty in my room, but that’s a minor gripe. For what I paid, and for the comfort and the good breakfast, I’d say it was a win.

So, if you’re thinking about a bed and breakfast in Spokane, I’d say go for it. Just do your homework, read those reviews carefully, and don’t expect the Ritz. But you might just find a nice, cozy spot that makes your trip a little bit better. That was my experience, anyway. Definitely something I’d consider doing again next time I’m in that neck of the woods.
