Okay, so, yesterday I was craving something sweet. Like, seriously craving. And I thought, “Hey, I’m in Detroit, there’s gotta be some awesome dessert places around here.” So, Operation Dessert commenced!
First thing I did was jump on my phone and started searching. I typed in “best desserts Detroit” and a whole bunch of places popped up. I checked out the photos, read a few reviews, and made a short list of contenders. I’m talking bakeries, ice cream shops, the whole shebang.
Stop number one: This place called “Astoria Pastry Shop”. I saw pictures of their cannolis online and I was SOLD. I hopped in my car, punched the address into the GPS, and off I went. Getting there was easy enough, and finding parking wasn’t too bad either. I walked inside and BAM! The smell of sugar and pastries hit me like a ton of bricks. It was amazing. I grabbed a classic cannoli and a slice of their cheesecake. Ate them both in the car. No regrets.
Next up: I wanted something cold. So, ice cream it was! I decided to hit up “Treat Dreams”. It’s got a funky name and the reviews said they have some pretty wild flavors. This place was a bit further out, but I was determined. The shop itself was small and kinda quirky, with all these bright colors. I ended up getting a scoop of their “Superman” ice cream (blue, red, and yellow, obviously) and a scoop of something chocolatey with peanut butter cups in it. Total sugar overload, but I was loving it.
After that I was pretty stuffed, but I figured, hey, might as well check out one more place. I decided to go for a bakery that was supposed to have amazing cupcakes. “Good Cakes and Bakes” was the name. It was a bit of a drive, and I was starting to feel the sugar rush wearing off. But when I walked in and saw all the cupcakes lined up, I got a second wind. They had so many flavors, it was hard to choose! I grabbed a red velvet cupcake and a lemon one. Took them home for later. Smart move.
The Verdict? Detroit has some seriously good dessert spots. My favorite was probably Astoria Pastry Shop, just because I’m a sucker for cannolis. But Treat Dreams was a close second, and Good Cakes and Bakes cupcakes were bomb. I definitely recommend checking them all out if you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth.
- Astoria Pastry Shop: Classic Italian pastries, amazing cannolis.
- Treat Dreams: Quirky ice cream shop with wild flavors.
- Good Cakes and Bakes: Delicious and diverse cupcake selection.
All in all, it was a pretty successful dessert adventure. I’m already planning my next one!
