So, I picked up one of those Edgestar beverage coolers a while back. Needed somewhere to stick drinks because the main fridge was always jammed full. Seemed like a solid enough choice, nothing too crazy expensive.

Getting it set up was easy enough. Unboxed it, found a spot for it, plugged it in. Let it run for a few hours to get down to temperature. It made a bit of noise, like a low hum, but nothing annoying. Fit a decent amount of cans and bottles, which was the main point.
For the first few months, it worked just fine. Kept everything nicely chilled. Super convenient having cold drinks ready to go without digging through the kitchen fridge. Happy with it.
Then things got weird
After maybe six months, I started noticing some drinks in the back were way too cold, like slushies or even frozen solid. But then stuff near the door felt barely cool. The temperature seemed really uneven. Wasn’t working like it used to.
My first thought was maybe I jammed too much stuff in there. I pulled a bunch of cans out, tried to space things out more, make sure air could get around. You know, give it some breathing room, especially near the fan thing in the back.
That helped a little, but didn’t totally fix the freezing issue. So, I decided to pull it away from the wall and check the back. Found the coils back there were pretty dusty. Like, coated in a layer of grey fuzz. Never occurred to me I’d need to clean that. So I got the vacuum out and used the brush attachment to clean all the dust off those coils. Made sure no vents inside were blocked either.
Put it back, plugged it in, and let it run. Checked it the next day, and things seemed back to normal. Drinks were cold all the way through, but nothing was frozen anymore. Consistent temperature again.
Guess those dirty coils were making it struggle or run constantly, leading to the freezing in some spots. And maybe packing it less tightly helped the air move better too. Just gotta remember to clean those coils every now and then, seems like. Simple fix, really. It’s been running like a champ ever since I did that cleaning.
