Getting the Idea
So, I got this idea stuck in my head: make a dessert tower. You know, one of those fancy things you see sometimes? Looked impressive, thought I’d give it a shot. Didn’t really have a big event or anything, just felt like trying something new in the kitchen.
Figuring Stuff Out
First thing, I had to decide what desserts to actually put on it. Couldn’t just be one thing, right? That’s boring. I thought about what I could actually make without driving myself crazy. Settled on a few things:
- Mini cupcakes
- Some macarons (store-bought, let’s be honest, making those is a whole other battle)
- Chocolate dipped strawberries
- Maybe some small cookies
Then I needed a stand. Didn’t have one. Looked around the house, found some different sized plates and sturdy glasses I could maybe stack up. Figured it’d be okay. Good enough is the goal here, not perfection.
Making the Bits and Pieces
Okay, baking time. Started with the mini cupcakes. Simple vanilla recipe, nothing fancy. Mixed the batter, filled the tiny liners, popped them in the oven. While those baked, I washed the strawberries. Melted some chocolate in the microwave – careful not to burn it, done that before, what a mess. Dipped the strawberries, laid them on wax paper to set. Cupcakes came out, let them cool completely. Whipped up some basic buttercream frosting. Nothing special, just butter, sugar, bit of vanilla. Frosted the cupcakes once they were cool. Then I baked some simple shortbread cookies, cut them into small rounds.
Putting It All Together
This was the tricky part. I took my biggest plate for the bottom. Put a sturdy, wide glass in the middle. Put a slightly smaller plate on top of that. Then a narrower glass, and finally the smallest plate on top. Checked if it was wobbly. Seemed okay? Held my breath a bit.
Started arranging. Put the heaviest stuff, the cupcakes, mostly on the bottom layer. Added some cookies around them. Middle layer got more cupcakes, the macarons, and some strawberries. Top layer got the last few strawberries and macarons. Tried to make it look balanced, you know? Spread the colors around. Stepped back. Looked… alright! Definitely homemade, but kind of cool.
The Result
So yeah, that was my dessert tower adventure. Took a good chunk of the afternoon. Wasn’t perfect like store-bought, but it stood up straight and had tasty things on it. Cleaning up wasn’t fun, but seeing it all stacked up was pretty satisfying. Might do it again sometime, maybe try different desserts. It was a decent way to spend a day.
