Alright, so let me tell you about this trip we took. The family decided, kinda last minute, that we needed some shore time, and North Wildwood was the spot. You know how it is, the sun, the sand, and eventually, everyone gets hungry. And not just regular hungry, but that specific “I’m at the beach and need seafood” kind of hungry.

Finding the Place
So, we started wandering around, looking for a spot. I’d heard a few folks mention a place, you know, just casually, nothing too hyped up. We weren’t after anything fancy, just some good, honest seafood. We walked past a few spots, some too crowded, some looking a bit too much like they’d charge you for the napkins. Then, we stumbled upon this place, Rick’s. Looked pretty straightforward from the outside, which, in my book, is usually a good sign. No frills, no fuss.
Stepping Inside and Ordering
We pushed open the door, and it was buzzing, but not in that chaotic way. More like a well-oiled machine, people ordering, people picking up. The smell of fried seafood, you know, that good kind, hit us right away. That’s always a good sign, right? We shuffled up to the counter, and the menu was up on a big board. Lots to choose from, maybe a bit too much if you ask me, but I guess they cater to all tastes.
I spent a good few minutes just looking, trying to decide. My wife, she knew what she wanted almost immediately. Always decisive, that one. I finally settled on some fried clams and a side of fries – can’t go wrong with a classic. The kids picked out their usual stuff, chicken fingers for one, a small fish and chips for the other. The fella at the counter was pretty efficient, took our order, gave us a number, and told us it’d be a bit of a wait. Fair enough, place was busy.
The Wait and The Food
We found a table outside, one of those plastic ones, which was fine by us. Better to be out in the air anyway. The wait wasn’t too bad, actually. Gave us time to people-watch, which is always entertaining down the shore. They called our number, and I went up to grab the tray. Everything was piled high, looked pretty good.
So, how was it? Well, let me tell you:
- The fried clams: They were decent. Cooked well, not greasy, good flavor. Not the best I’ve ever had in my life, but definitely hit the spot.
- The fries: Standard fare, crispy enough. No complaints there.
- My wife’s fish: She said it was flaky and fresh, which is what you want.
- Kids’ meals: They wolfed them down, so I guess that’s a thumbs up. Kids are usually the toughest critics, right?
The portions were pretty generous, I’ll give them that. We all had plenty to eat. It wasn’t gourmet, mind you. This isn’t the kind of place you go to for a fancy dining experience. This is where you go when you’re hungry, you want some classic shore seafood, and you don’t want to spend a fortune.
Final Thoughts
We finished up, cleaned our table, and headed back out into the evening. Everyone was full, everyone was pretty content. For what it was, Rick’s did the job. It’s a solid, no-nonsense seafood joint. If you’re in North Wildwood and you get that craving, it’s definitely a place you can stop by. You’ll get a decent meal, won’t break the bank. Sometimes, that’s all you need, especially when you’ve got the whole family with you. Just good, simple food after a day in the sun. Yeah, I’d say it was a successful stop. We got what we came for.
