So I just got back from this cozy bed and breakfast in Hudson, and damn, I gotta tell you why it’s worth picking over regular hotels. See, last Thursday I woke up at 5AM feeling like my city apartment was suffocating me. Grabbed my phone, searched “Hudson Valley getaway,” and boom – this place popped up with riverside views in the pics.

The Drive Up & Arrival
Threw clothes in a duffel bag, chugged cold coffee, and hit the road in my rusty pickup truck. Two hours later, rolling into Hudson felt like switching from grayscale to technicolor. The B&B owner Martha waved from her porch swing as I pulled onto the gravel driveway. She hugged me like we were old pals and handed over a warm blueberry muffin still dripping with butter.
Walking Into the Room
Followed Martha up these creaky wooden stairs to my room called “The Perch.” When she swung the door open? Holy crap. Patchwork quilts piled three deep on a four-poster bed, one of those old-timey wood stoves in the corner, and floor-to-ceiling windows showing the whole damn Hudson River sparkling below. Felt like stepping inside a hug. Dumped my bag and immediately face-planted onto the feather mattress – softer than my ex’s promises.
Why This Place Sticks With You
Woke up at sunrise because light was bleeding gold all over the river. Sat on the window seat wrapped in quilt, watching tugboats cut through fog. No TV in the room, just shelves crammed with mystery novels and a record player spinning crackly jazz. Later I wandered down to the garden where Martha was grilling local trout for guests. Ate at a picnic table with strangers who felt like friends by dessert.
The real kicker? After checkout, I drove to three fancy hotels in town pretending to shop for a “friend’s wedding.” Peeked into their rooms – sterile white walls, same generic art, windows staring into parking lots. Felt like comparing hospital rooms to someone’s actual home. Yeah, the B&B bathroom was small and I heard floorboards squeak at midnight. But man, falling asleep to river whispers beats AC units growling any damn day.
